Srideep Mangela crowned Cricket Star Twenty20 winner
Jaipur, 30th March, 2008: 20 year old, Srideep Mangela from Mumbai has won the “Reebok Cricket Star Twenty20” talent hunt program. The month long nationwide cricket talent hunt program, concluded yesterday with Greg Chappell announcing the winner. This unique initiative developed by Emerging Media to look for talented cricketers at the grass root levels across the country is currently in its second season. Srideep Mangela of Mumbai was awarded a contract by Emerging Media to be part of Rajasthan Royals team for the 2009 IPL season.
The overwhelming response to Cricket Star Twenty20 saw youngsters applying from over 500 towns and cities across the country. Registrations were opened since December 2007 and over 5000 boys attended the selection trials, held in various cities across India. Under the expert eyes of Greg Chappell and Ian Frazer the most talented candidates from each city were selected for the Cricket Star Twenty20 Academy at Jaipur. The selected contestants attended a boot camp at the Academy where they went through rigorous physical and mental conditioning on the Twenty20 format under the guidance of Greg Chappell and competed with each other to be the next Cricket Star.
Commenting on the occasion, Greg Chappell said, “Srideep Mangela has displayed brilliant cricketing skills and temperament at such a young age. This was a tough choice to make, as all the short listed candidates demonstrated extraordinary talent and skills. Cricket Star talent hunt, is helping to unearth the vast cricket talent that exists untapped across India. We hope that all these kids and many more like them across the country pursue their cricketing dreams and we at Cricket Star are happy be part of their journey.”
While awarding Srideep Mangela the contract with the Rajasthan Royals team, Fraser Castellino, CEO, Emerging Media said “Cricket Star Twenty20 as an initiative reiterates Emerging Media’s commitment to the development of cricket in India especially at the grass root levels.
